Richard Scarry updates
I grew up reading Richard Scarry books, as did Dan, and as will John. We enjoy "The Bunny Book" - which isn't the one I find when I search on Google but a different one!
Some of his books have changed, though. One person documented the changes in his "Best Word Book Ever".
The world, in my opinion, is a much less interesting place when men cannot be heros and women cannot be pretty.

That's a very interesting website! I'm with you on heroes, and those yellow ribbons are just silly, though I think people might legitimately ask why the pilot isn't pretty and the steward(ess) handsome. I don't know. Interestingly, Scarry was still alive in 1991, so it's likely that he did actually participate in making the changes.
We have a 1965 copy of "Busy Busy World", which came from Laura's family. The stories and pictures themselves are great, but some of the names are real doozies, such as "Ah-Choo of Hong Kong" and "Happy Lappy from Finland." And such a focus on nationalities, and mostly Caucasian ones at that! My first thought on reading it was, "Boy, there's no way they'd publish a book like this today." And sure enough, it's out of print, which is a shame.
