New Jersey Driving and a Nice Dinner

We had the wonderful privilege of meeting another New Jersey Techer's family on Tuesday night when we drove to Anne's house in eastern New Jersey.

Being from California, we don't consider New Jersey all that large. The length of the state takes a couple hours, the width should take about half that, at most.

We still haven't learned, though, that drives in New Jersey never take as long as they "should" and that time needs to be added if we are ever to arrive punctually. We had printed out the directions which suggested the drive would take about 50 minutes. We departed at 6:00 to arrive for a nice evening meal at 7:00 pm. The first thirty minutes of the drive went well. Then the traffic stopped. We joked about asking the driver in the next car to borrow their cell phone. Three lanes funneled into one before that lane was forced off the now-closed highway. We were in a place we didn't know - but, I still had the AAA maps. We began driving towards the hoped-for town as it was printed on the map, only to realize later that our friend's house was, according to the map, a few towns away from the town of address.

Aaaah - New Jersey.

We arrived at 8:00 pm after two hours of driving.

On the bright side, we drove through an incredibly cute down-town with many old churches and victorian homes.

And, dinner was delicious.

Well worth the drive.
